Choosing music icons
Music icons cover two different needs: player controls that people press hundreds of times, and visual icons for genres, instruments and events.
Player controls
Play, pause, next, previous, shuffle, repeat and volume form a standard set people already know. Keep them in one line or solid style at the same size, and make play and pause the most prominent. Use a filled icon for the active state of shuffle and repeat so people can see what's on.
Genres and playlists
Genre tiles and playlist covers can use flat, gradient or 3D artwork: guitars for rock, headphones for focus playlists, microphones for podcasts. Colorful styles help people find a category without reading.
Events and venues
Ticketing and venue pages need icons for dates, seating, location and access alongside the music symbols. Pick a pack that also includes tickets and stages, or pair music icons with business icons in the same style for calendars and payments.
Instruments and lessons
Music schools and practice apps need icons for instruments, notes, metronomes and lessons. Line icons keep lesson lists tidy, while colorful flat instruments work well on course cards. Check that every instrument you teach is in the same pack before you start designing.
Accessibility
Every control needs an accessible name, such as "Play" or "Next track", and toggle buttons such as shuffle should announce whether they're on. An icon alone doesn't tell screen reader users the current state.
Before you download
- Check that the pack includes every player control you need.
- Plan filled versions for active states.
- Keep controls in one style and genre artwork in another.
- Write an accessible name for every control.
- Test play and pause at your smallest size.

Which icons does a music player need?
Play, pause, next, previous, shuffle, repeat, volume and a queue or playlist icon, all from the same pack, with filled versions for active states.
Which style works for playlist covers?
Flat, gradient or 3D artwork. Bold colors help people tell genres and playlists apart at a glance.

Give every button a text name for screen readers, and let toggles like shuffle and repeat announce whether they're on.
Can I use music icons in commercial projects?
Yes. IconHub icons are free for personal and commercial projects with attribution. You can't resell them as files or use them in a logo. The license page has the full summary.
