Choosing travel icons

Travel icons are used in booking flows, itineraries, maps and destination guides. They often need to work as small interface symbols and as larger illustrations on the same site.

Booking flows

Flights, hotels, car hire and activities each need a clear icon for tabs and search forms. Line or solid icons at 20–24 px keep these forms calm. Show the selected tab with a filled version of the same icon rather than a different drawing.

Itineraries and timelines

A trip timeline mixes many kinds of steps: plane, train, check-in, museum, restaurant. Use a pack with wide coverage so every step gets an icon in the same style, and show the time and place next to each one, since a plane icon alone doesn't say whether it's a departure or an arrival.

Maps

Pins sit on busy map tiles, so they need contrast. Flat and line color icons inside a pin stand out better than thin outlines. Keep pins to two or three colors, for example one for hotels and one for sights.

Amenities and filters

Hotel and rental listings use many small icons for amenities: wifi, parking, pool, breakfast, air conditioning, pets allowed. They sit in long lists and filter panels, so keep them simple, the same size and always labeled. A one-color line pack is usually easier to read here than colorful artwork.

Destination and marketing pages

Landmarks, luggage, passports and beach scenes work well as flat, gradient or 3D artwork in hero sections and email headers. Every icon is a vector, so you can scale it up without blur.

Before you download

  • List what you sell (flights, hotels, cars, activities) and the icons each one needs.
  • Pick one style for interface icons and, if you need it, another for illustrations.
  • Check map pins against your real map tiles for contrast.
  • Pair every timeline icon with a time and a place.
  • If you show destinations by country, take all flags from one pack.

Questions about travel icons

Short answers on formats, editing and use.

Which travel icons does a booking site need?

At least flights, hotels, car hire, activities, dates, guests and location, plus a filled version of each for the selected tab.

How do I make map pins stand out?

Use flat or line color icons inside a pin shape, limit pins to two or three colors, and keep their size the same across the map.

Can I use travel icons in print?

Yes. Download SVG for brochures and posters so icons stay sharp at any size, or a large PNG for tools that don't accept vectors.

Can I use travel icons in commercial projects?

Yes. IconHub icons are free for personal and commercial projects with attribution. You can't resell them as files or use them in a logo. The license page has the full summary.
